Important Information
'Honey is food' - 'Honey is medicine'
'My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste' (Proverbs 24, verse 13.)
Besides sugars (about 75 per cent) and water, honey also contains small ammounts of such valuable minerals as calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, sodium, sulphur, phosphorus and protein.
Traditionally, honey has been used as a 'tonic' or 'pick me-up', and in the treatment of ANAEMIA, KIDNEY COMPLAINTS and CIRCULATION PROBLEMS. Its soothing effects are universally well known.
Try a glass of hot milk with a teaspoon of honey for a sore throat, and the same with an added measure of brandy to relieve the symptoms of INFLUENZA.
A glass of hot water taken with 2 teaspoons of honey and the fresh juice of half a lemon is a soothing bedtime drink. You can use honey as a skin softener and conditioner: just spread it gently over the face and hands, leave for 15 minutes and then wipe off with a damp flannel.
Honey may also help HAY FEVER victims. But to be effective it must be gathered in the area where you live, so that you ingest the local mix of pollens.
